MOORESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM
WINS REGIONAL COMPETITION
Mooresville, NC — February 20, 2010 — Eight students from Mooresville High School competed in the North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Competition on February 20 at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse in the Charlotte Regional Qualifier for the statewide competition. Senior Elise Hauser was named “Best Attorney” in Round 1 and “Best Witness” in the Final Round, while Senior Rebecca Sliney was named “Best Attorney” and both Round 2 and the Final Round.
Twelve teams from the Charlotte region competed in Saturday's event. Mooresville High School defeated teams from Lake Norman High School in rounds one and two. In the final round, MHS defeated perennial power (and last year's national runner-up) Victory Christian Center School to win the regional title. MHS will compete against winners from five other state regions at the North Carolina State Finals March 19- 20 in Raleigh for a chance to represent North Carolina at the national level in the American Mock Trial Invitational later this spring. It will be the team's second trip to the State Finals in three years.
"When we were announced as regional winners, it was just a perfect moment. All our old ghosts were exorcised and each of those kids was rewarded for their hard work with a moment I think they will always remember. I know I will," says Ronnie Crisco , attorney advisor and coach for the MHS Mock Trial Team. Members of the team include seniors Jordan Davis, Elise Hauser, Troy Homesley , Megan Rabuck, Rebecca Sliney, Anthony Vitanza , Jacob Morse , and sophomores Lane Ferrell , Brad Johnson , and Ryan Rocklein.

The North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the NC Advocates for Justice Foundation. This marks the 18 th year of the competition, an initiative that provides students an opportunity to learn about the legal system and develop critical thinking skills from professionals in the field.
